Essentials to Include in the Diet Chart for Children

Every child needs a healthy diet. But at the same time, it is also important that he or she is getting the right nutrition. The diet chart for children is similar to adults with some additional food items. If the right nutrient is not given to a child, then it can affect immunity, stop growth and development, and lead to many diseases and health issues. Here are some things that you should not miss including in your child’s diet chart.

Oils and Fats

Even though you may consider these as harmful for your child, it is very important for the child’s brain development. Fats act as energy boosters in our bodies. If the right amount of fat is not given to the child, then it can affect his or her brain development. However, this does not include fatty food items such as junk food, too oily food, etc. Food items such as nuts, fish, etc. are very good for your child. You can also use canola oil, olive oil, corn oil, etc., to prepare your dishes.

Milk and Milk Products

When children are young, their bones are weak. Giving your child calcium is required to ensure that his or her bones are healthy. You can give cottage cheese, milk, cheese, etc. are very good ways through which your child can be healthy, and his or her bones are also strong.

Proteins and Vitamins

Proteins and vitamins are also a very important part of a child’s diet plan. Cereals, rice, egg, etc. are some of the food products that you should include in your child’s diet. You also choose meat, nuts, seafood, etc. in his or her diet.


Kids are not very fond of vegetables, especially greens. But it is very important that a child has all the vegetables. Avoid giving your child frozen or canned vegetables as they do not provide enough nutrients that your child requires. Give fresh vegetables such as beans, carrots, beets, lettuce, etc.


Fresh fruits are very healthy and important for a child. Fruits are a good source of fiber and hence, should not be excluded from the diet plan. If your child does not like to eat fruits, then you can try different food recipes for kids. These recipes make fruits tasty and kids are surely going to eat them.


Grains are essential for children and they help in the development and growth of a child. You should include various kinds of grains such as oats, bread, pasta, wheat, etc. However, you need to keep in mind that there are some processed grains that have a high level of salt or sugar. Such grains should be avoided.

Having a balanced diet for your child is very important. You need to ensure that you are not missing out on any of the essentials in your child’s diet. Include all the essentials and let your child get all the nutrients for his or her growth and development.
